We charge only a nominal wipe fee for our services because we want to make sure we do our part as a responsible Tucson computer store by protecting sensitive personal information for our clients. The computer repair industry as a whole has a lot of work to do to repair its tarnished reputation related to the mishanding of sensitve data and Xcentech wants to be on the forefront of this movement.

Why Is Secure Data Destruction Important?

Using modern technology, data recovery companies can work mirales when it comes to pulling data off of a hard drive. So you think you deleted those sensitive files? For the right price, data recovery companies can recover data off of a hard drive that has been submerged at the bottom of the ocean for years, even though it has suffered significant rust damage and saltwater corrosion.

Our Process:

Xcentech uses a process that has been certified by the US Department of Defense for secure data destruction. More specifically, the software erases a drive sector-by-sector, seven different times. The key is that the bits are randomly written and erased by using proprietary randomization algorithms that mathematically ensure that data is never written to the same sector the same way twice.

If a drive is too damaged to go through this wiping process, it is separated and placed in a secure storage area for physical destruction by our technicians. These drives are then intentionally damaged beyond repair by physically bending or breaking the drive components with blunt force or are drilled from one side to the other using a drill press. This ensures that the hard drive seal is broken and that the platters and read heads of the drive are too damaged to ever work again. Once physical destruction is complete, the parts are sent to a partner company for raw metals recycling.

Drives that are successfully erased will be re-used, resold as refurbished, or recycled at our sole discretion.
