Windows 7 Is Here!

Windows 7 is finally here! The hype surrounding Microsoft's latest operating system offering has been tremendous compared to that of Vista. We have personally talked to many customers that did not want anything to do with Windows Vista, especially once they heard that Windows 7 was soon coming to save the day. With promises of increased application compatibility and tales about the ability to use older hardware without issue, many have seen Windows 7 as the answer to their computer prayers. But wait! Before you head for your nearest Tucson software retailer, there are some things you should know:

Lost Data = Much Sadness

We all have computer files that we absolutely cannot lose. For some of us, it may only be one file. Unfortunately for the rest of us, we find out just how many files we depend on only during the worst of computer crashes. With all the TV commercials and radio ads for secure online backup providers in recent months, it's a wonder that anyone still gambles with the loss of their data.

Twitter Me This

It’s official! Social networking sites have taken over the world! Well ok, they did that years ago. Unfortunately, while professionals and social networking hold-outs of all types rush to join the MySpace/Twitter/Facebook revolution, they may in fact get more than they bargained for. Now that new and vicious breeds of virus and malware infections are targeting social networking users like never before, it is more important than ever to remind everyone about online computer security. Thankfully, there are some very simple steps that all users can take to make sure that they don’t spend more time and money cleaning up viruses than they do networking.

An Ode to the Eternally Unhappy

We at Xcentech have always prided ourselves on striving to give our customers the very best computing experience at an affordable price. We have several different discounts and are always running one promotion or another. When something goes wrong with a repair as it always does in the world of computer repair, we do our very best to make it right by our customers. Furthermore, we have been recognized by the Better Business Bureau and have countless repeat customers and referrals. Despite all this, there are always those computer repair customers that complain about our store prices even after a heavily discounted repair.

It’s Time to Hear from Tucson’s Web Visitors

Feedback becomes extremely necessary to a web site’s survival for two reasons. First, it shows that there is actually interest and relevance to a web site or blog. Second, and most important for us, it gives our authors new and different ways to think about the computer repair industry as a whole. After all, we don’t write these pages and blogs for our own purposes, but rather in the hope that someone somewhere, hopefully in Tucson, will find the computing and technology topics valuable and interesting. To that end, we are officially opening our blog articles for comments!

So You Think You’re A Designer? Part One

There are many so-called web designers in Tucson that don’t deserve the title. Over the past six years, we have seen many a web designer come and go by having the opportunity to serve their unhappy clients. While anyone with even a little computer skill can throw a web site template out into the abyss that is the internet, it is the small things that form the vast canyon between those who are professional web designers and those who are merely pretending. One of the most serious problems that inexperienced web-designers can cause is the loss of control over domain names.

FREE Hard Drive Wiping Sure to Increase Computer Recycling in Tucson

We all want to do right by the environment...as long as it's painless and doesn't cost anything of course! For a while now, Xcentech has charged a nominal hard drive wipe fee to get rid of sensitive data on hard drives that come along with equipment that is brought to us for recycling. Unfortunately, the nominal $15 fee has seemed to turn away more clients than it has helped. The fear is that such computing clients will simply find the nearest trash bin instead of recycling the equipment at all. As a responsible Tucson computer repair store and dedicated environmental partner, we cannot allow e-waste to go un-recycled.

Tucson Computer Stores Piss Me Off! Part 2

Last week I talked about some things that pissed me off about Tucson computer stores, including the use of illegal or mis-licensed software, the lack of communication between computer store techs and customers, and the lack of accountability for computer repairs due to the lack of notes taken by computer store technicians. While those issues are alarming enough by themselves, there are indeed a few more things that upset me. Let's talk about parts.

Tucson Computer Repair Made Simple

Tucson has an abundance of computer repair professionals and computer stores, as compared to many other cities of its size. With tech companies such as Microsoft and IBM having called Tucson home in years past, the number of trained professionals in the areas of tech support, customer computer building, network setup and administration, on-site support, and server administration has skyrocketed. While it can be overwhelming to choose the best computer tech or computer store, there are some key points to remember.

Tucson Computer Stores Piss Me Off!

I know today's blog may sound a little cranky, but I assure you that most people reading this who have had the common displeasure of visiting many local computer stores can relate in one way or another. Why so harsh? The idea for this article came to me quite by surprise today. Here I was thinking about something interesting I could say about computer stores in Tucson that would be not only helpful, but would eventually help my rankings. The problem I had was that it can get very tiring trying to come up with something interesting to say about a subject that simply infuriates me. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is when the light bulb went off.
